In 2016 District ONE and LiveWell Huerfano County, with the support of the city and community, reinvented the vacant Washington School, creating a wonderful recreation center here in Walsenburg called the Washington Underground. The idea of the school being used for a rec center had been suggested by residents for years but finally gained traction last year. Now community members can play basketball in the open gym, get stronger in the weight room or more flexible taking one of the yoga classes. There's also a ADA compliant bathroom and shower available. It's such an inviting and affordable place to get healthy, come join the movement!
